Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that helped shape the hairstylist you are today?

  • The transition from being a hairstylist behind the chair and then becoming a business owner as well as a hairstylist behind the chair became a very lonely place. Fears and anxieties suddenly hijacked me. Finding my tribe amongst my team and building a larger network as a national educator helped with building my confidence and gave me the tools I needed to be the best version of myself no matter which “hat” I’m wearing at the moment.

If you could time travel to any era solely for its hairstyles, which one would it be and why?

  • The late 80’s and 90’s. I love asymmetrical haircuts and styles and the artistic usage of fashion shades to express oneself. I personally would love to see mullets and rat tails make a comeback! And the goth-girl in me will always secretly live at Hot Topic and dream about music festivals and mohawks.

Describe your signature style in three words – both for your work personal fashion sense. (I polled the team for this one).

  • Angsty Mr Rogers, bohemian farmer, Cardi-B meets Stevie Nicks, 1990’s attic vampire, all according to Bri
  • Disjointed according to Missy’s Joe
  • Sheldon with a dark twist according to Tara
  • Vintage according to Katie

Can you recall a memorable transformation where a client left feeling like a whole new person?

  • Oh yes, a client of mine who had never colored her hair in her life, told me to do whatever I wanted... and I went for it. I gave her a Sunrise inspired ombre, red, orange and yellow. SHE ROCKED IT! It changed her life, and she still allows me to do whatever I want.

If you could time travel to any era solely for its hairstyles, which one would it be, and why?

  • 1920’s for sure!!! I LOVE the flapper look. Finger waves and curly bobs. So adorable.

What inspired you to become a hairstylist, and how did your journey in the industry begin?

  • My aunt Tina, she was a hairstylist for over 30 years. When she was diagnosed with a terminal illness she donated her time and taught other woman who were fighting cancer as well, how to apply false eyelashes, draw on eyebrows, and style their wigs. I volunteered with her while in high school and immediately fell in love with the craft. After my aunts passing, I went to cosmetology school and here I am 10 years later. Love you Tina Bell.

What’s the most unexpected request you’ve ever had from a client?

  • A bowl cut. Straight. No blending. Disconnected. NOT EVEN LYING!

What’s your secret to turning a bad hair day into a fabulous one?

  • BRAIDS! The dirtier the hair the smoother the braid. Also hides frizz and still looks put together.

What’s your favorite part of the hairstyling process, and why does it resonate with you?

  • I love the finish work because it allows me to see all of my hardwork and the client gets to see the hair of their dreams!

  • My go-to Hairstyle would be some loose curls/beach waves. It’s always a soft, pretty look.

Share a heartwarming client story that left a lasting impact on you.

  • I had a client come in unhappy with her hair that had just been done somewhere else. She has a lot of medical issues that affect her hair and she felt hopeless. After a fresh color, haircut, and deep conditioning treatment, she left feeling better than ever!
